Scene 003...Again.

This was a sneaky scene. We thought we had it nailed and then too many issues with layers lining up appeared so after much re-ogranisation and a lot of flitting between Photoshop and After Effects I can now finally proudly show Sc. 03 as its supposed to appear. if you notice any discrepancies or if there is still double of Clive's body popping up please comment. I've looked at this Sc. so much in the past few days I can no longer tell whats right any more. Hopefully this means that we are 5 camera shakes away from a final edit of Mawkin's Backfire ready for exporting...

Ball Games

Scene 016...

Tug Of War

Mouseknapped

Scene 030, pretty sure it needs more of a background than this...

Rooftop Rumble

Scene 038...

A Mouse Without His Tash'

Scene 026...

Scene 006 Draft 1

So minus the shot which does not exist yet [and shall not be named] this is the final shot to be composited. I've shown two versions for development in the next day or two, one with a zoom and one without. This occurs just after John bumps into the clown. It needs work but It'll get there...maybe...

My Least Favourite Scene

Ironically this was one of the first scenes we attempted to animate for a sweet Disposition back in October. I've never liked it simply because I've never had a proper layout or much to work with in regards to John. Eleanor has redrawn this from about three different angles and one permutation which is now not being used was even in-betweened by a second year and then coloured. All in all very unsatisfactory. I've put off doing it but alas poor Yorick I have no choice. So this is Scene 008 version 15, in order to stay on schedule I need to nail this scene before close of play tomorrow so anything I can do to amke it better would be appreciated...

A Boy and His Ball

Scene 014 Draft 1 for Mouse-tasche, due to a layout error I had to move the whole composistion down so that the guards arm and the ball meet, I  had to add an extra sunset light layer as the boy was too pale against the wall and I think the background could benefit from being more zoomed in. Battling on but must get back to A Sweet Disposition...

We Heart Reinhard Mouse Take One

Reinhard is our amazing life drawing tutor and as an easter egg he appears if not in all then most of the fourth year graduating films, here he is making a squeaky cool cameo in Mouse-tasche. Don't quite think the timing for the frames which I got from Ashley is quite right but Scene 029 is getting there.

Dancing Girl

Scene 021 take one for Mouse-tasche, not so sure about the timing of the pan to the villain or the shift in focus, advice welcome...

The Last Mawkin's Background and Its Parent Scene

So now its onto extreme editing time...

Last But Not Least....

So 1/3 films composited and ready for editing. Much thanks to Kieran Baxter who helped me set up the layers for movement for the tractor. Just one more background revision to do for Mawkin's one and then its time to work through all the scenes and then back to A Sweet Disposition and Mouse-tasche plus making of's...

Backfiring Buckets!

Buckets this year are proving to be a serious issue. This one was especially tricky, but Scene 020 Take one which means...only one more Mawkin's Scene and one Background before the final editing stage. There's a lot of things that need tweaked but we'll get there. Soon too with any luck. Very exciting!

One Week To Go...

..and again Mawkin's expression sums up how I'm feeling. Scene 033.

Many Mawkin's Updates

Its one week to go and the pressure is on. I may have been quiet on the internet front this weekend but I have been busy in other places so behold much Mawkin's madness. There's only two scenes left to composite tomorrow then its onto editing and making it more shiny. Huzzah. Now its back to the panic stations of A Sweet Disposition which has three scenes to go and more editing than I can shake a pen tablet at. Grrr..

Scenes 03 and 04

Another two scenes blocked out. Three to go, 20 + credits + Making of to worry about 12 days to go....

Autumnal.

A sweet Disposition Scene 02. I think the leaves are a tad unnecessary...

The Background. The Bucket. The Ugly

More bad news on A Sweet Disposition. Not only did I discover that the bucket has not been updated with shadow when I sat down to composite it but also that the timing for this scene is all wrong and the children's run cycles had to be completely touched up. A most unsatisfactory night with even less sleep or  satisfactory results. Somehow I'm going to have to fix this as its the all important title scene. I knew it was going to be a tough scene to fix but I was not expecting it to be quite this bad. Help. Just Help.

Tuesday 19 April 2011

Feed The Birds...

Scene 003 Mawkin's Backfire. There were a lot of confusing layers in this scene so if you spot a crow missing a body or a tongue in the wrong place let me know and I'll try to fix it!

Mawkin's Backfire Opening Scene 01

It's not quite their yet and as Brian enthuses we really need to nail this one so suggestions as how to make it more shiny would be great. Also big congrats to the rest of the Mawkin's team who completed the colouring today! It's just down to me now to make their hard work look as good as it deserves to!

Scenes 09-20 Take Two

There are still more updates to be sine based on in-studio discussions had this afternoon and so opinions are still asked for and welcome!

Mousel In Distress

Scene 040 Take One for Moustache...

Monday 18 April 2011

Gravity Defying Mouse

Scene 015 for Mouse-Tache, the hero swoops in and takes the ball from the guard to give back to the boy.....

Scene 035

Mawkin's quick escape in the barn after its collapse and he has realised that the farmer is returning! I think the shot should be closer in and focused on the animation as at present you can see Mawkin has no body and the gorgeous animation is a bit lost amongst one of the more dull backgrounds.

Post Collision Crows

Mawkin's Backfire Scene 028. I'll be adding some stars and feathers from the wonderfully colourful Scene 27 once I get some direction on how Brian sees this scene working so look out for an updated version soon!

Pot Luck

Scene 026 More Gunfire action, though colours on this one aren't as working out as  satisfactory...

Crows and Buckets and Gunfire Oh My....

Scene 018 and 019 for  Mawkin's Backfire, Take One.

Scene 012

I've never been happy with the 3D in this scene but here's a compromise based on the time available for now. It does mean that although they all need tweaked all the Bob scenes are loosely composited...

Scenes 09-20 Rough Test

Sweet Sixteen

Scene 016 for  A Sweet Disposition. I can't tell you how long the smoke took to fix and despite this and the sheer amount of smoke ink bleeds and its still jittery and may have been the cause for my weekly Friday meltdown. Still this is its present incarnation which while being not amazing will just have to do....

John Meets Smokey Bob

Love at first fright...

Spot The Smoke Monster

This is Scene 018 where John and Bob ring the unsuspecting neighbours doorbell. There is a wonderfully cheesy dialogue coming from the tv and an awful sounding doorbell...

Sunday 17 April 2011

Trick Or Treat

Scenes 019 and 020 for A Sweet Disposition. These are the last two scenes of the film before it cuts to credits. Also it means I'm 50% there in compositing the film and there's only two more Bob scenes to go....Is it working?

Ding Dong

Door Test For A Sweet Disposition Scene 019.

Scene 017

Promise not to eat me. Due to major story-boarding upheaval in January this became the only scene where John and Bob interact. It's been tricky to composite but heres Scene 017 Take One....

Saturday 16 April 2011

The Many Layers of Bob

To celebrate the end of compiling Bob for compositing I made a quick Screen Capture Test showing how Bob in scene 12 is layered up. May give some understanding as to why he's taking so long...

Friday 15 April 2011

Scene 016 Updated.

Big shout of to the increasingly awesome Laura Blyth who has not only done the music for Mawkin's and A Sweet Disposition but has made me happy by kindly and expertly cleaning up this scene for me I really love this scene and you can barely tell but I used an effect on the gunfire approved and used in  Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Joy.

Better...

Scene 034

Yet another tricky one for Mawkin's Backfire...

Scene 023

A Compositional Nightmare...

Scene 04 Mawkin's

End Of Mawkins

This is the three ending shots 036-038 quickly thrown together. Timing is crucial at this point so comments welcome...

Mawkin's Scene 011

This scene caused the most bother as the horse and the scarecrow were drawn on two different layouts of different sizes, with much editing and background redrawing this was my final suggestion for the scene....

Mawkin's Scene 05 Take Two

Scene 08

Scene 016

The frames need cleaned up but what do you think of the gunfire flash?

Car Test 01

The farmer returns. Big shout out to John Harkins who assisted with the car layers before I could colour them. I'm not doing his work justice at present as it needs much adjusting...

Mawkin's Backfire Scene 036 and 037

Nom Nom Nom...

Scene 014...

Monday 11 April 2011

Rooftop Chase

Mouse-tasche Scene 032. I wish there was time to do everything to this scene that I would like to do...

Alas Poor Smokey Bob...

Scene 7.5 Take One. I've been a busy bee today but sadly most of what I have been doing is for Mawkin's Backfire and is certain scenes which Brian wants to keep under wraps until the film shows at the degree show which is a shame as I'd love to show you all the madness of the animation. Instead pacify yourself with smokey Bob in Scene 7.5 where we meet Bob for the first time and he is talking to himself. The final recording for this scene will be done tomorrow and I have to say I will be sorry to let Kenneth Branagh go! Also updated Scene 09 and 05.

Thursday 7 April 2011

Mouseketeer...

Mouse-tasche scenes 02, 04 and 06 are done. The hero puts on his cape, hat and moustache. Quickly. Below is Scene 02 and 06 as 04 refuses to upload at present!

Angry Shadows

Scene 30 for Mawkin's Backfire in two dark and angry parts...

Wednesday 6 April 2011

Rubber Pitchforks?!

Scene 07 For Mawkin's Backfire. This is an example of a group collaboration with Brian, Joe, Amy and myself all being involved in the making of this shot. The camera pan needs to be adjusted slightly as although correct with the animation it doesn't quite sit right I think but regardless Good work team!

Architecture Must Go

Mawkin's Backfire Scene 032, I wish I had the sound effects to add as they make this scene something else...

Tuesday 5 April 2011

300th Post. More Bob Action

A Sweet Disposition Scene 09. This is actually the third version and far from the final as I'm away the updated 2D frames which I had left on Eleanor's computer, so if you combine the video below with the 2D run cycle from the previous version then we shall have a full scene. I think I may tone down the mist on this one...

Friday 1 April 2011

Collision Course

It gave me a headache but it was fun and so..yes, Mawkin's Backfire Scene 027. Combination of After Effects to the max and some creative personal timing..epilepsy is possible...
