reflective Essay Submission For 28.03.2012

Its about 2/3 of the way there but needs severe editing however I am happy with it so far for the submission tomorrow. I don't want to paste it up here yet so have the front cover for now, its about as exciting as the current state of the essay itself...

In Other News...

I've been taking advantage of the warm weather to catch up on some drawing. So here to show that Im not just lost in the realm of 3D is something I've been doodling. Its not quite there yet will definitely ahve to add in some frames etc, but something different...

Put It Together And What Have You Got...

So I badly need to work out how to create glass using the material sections. There are no lights in the scene as yet and this is only the initial block texture so added to this will be more signs of environmental wear and tear, bump/ specular/normal maps etc so this is a loose test...

Landing Towers

I will have to figure out what to add to this texture in order to make it better, I am thinking some kind of relief panel on the side in stone depicting some kind of Futuristic artwork, or I could just keep it simple and add some glass to the archways much like Mussolini's EUR in Rome (see picture below). Much to ponder.

Deco Doorways Test 01

Finally texturing the external model has begun. I started with the doors which I gave an art deco twist to to liven it up. Lots of damp concrete to follow in the coming days...

03 - Happy Mother's Day..

Mothers day card, day late due to no internet but shhh...
I used to fall asleep in my soup a lot as a kid. I'm starting to wonder that in fact all I have done in the past is sleep which makes me feel like maybe the lack of sleep I'm getting these days is justified...

Everything You Do Is A Balloon

Airship model roughly textured. I'm pretty happy with the engine texture however the rest of it not so much but confident that it will get there once I learn about diffuse, specular, normal maps and how to use mud-box in a way to make the textures look great. I'd love to spend longer on this now but I have to crack on with doing something to the external model and essay writing before the examiner's visit next week. Deep breathes.

Also, if anyone can explain to me quickly how to use materials efficiently to get the glass elements transparent and reflective then I'd be very happy to listen as too many tutorials online are slowly destroying my will to live and my internet access is limited.

Transport Models

I've been quite on the blog as Going Live (or Come Die With Me as a severely sleep deprived Rudy calls it) has taken over the majority of my soul/ time but thats not to say that I haven't been working on it. I have managed to get both the train and the airship model re-done to a decent level for now and UV'd sufficiently to allow texturing texts to begin. I have a feeling parts of these models will be re-made at a later date but they are only seen quickly, in passing and from a distance so while is limited they are not taking priority...

Arrival Hall Fixed

After taking a break from this model, I decided it was time to grit my teeth and fix it. It is now set up for texturing with all necessary elements present, correct labelled, UV'd and grouped and is now small enough to navigate quickly in Maya. Bring on the texturing...

Texture By Numbers

Finally managing to get back on track with my own work (amongst the never ending rotoscoping for the Going Live module) so a month behind but back. I had a great meeting with Gary yesterday morning who talked me through the texturing process and gave me hints and tips to get through as its something I've never done before. Have o say if I can find the time to do it well then out of all the steps do far this is the one I'm most looking forward to. As a helpful guide to clarify which part of the map belongs to what part of the model I have block coloured (in a rather hideous rainbow fashion) the maps for the model. With this done I have no excuse but to start properly.
