Birth of A Beast

So I may have had to start the Maya model again but practice makes closer to perfect and while its not there yet the first Futurist Waverley is born, many happy polygonal returns. I only have some screenshots for tonight for sleep beckons, camera movements to follow soon. Now if anyone has any idea how to begin UV mapping this beast I would be happy to hear...

  1. First of all, stunning model - I'd be really interested to see it being used later!

Now for UV mapping, which all really depends on how you plan to use the model.

It looks like a large environment? If so, I'd consider the camera movement, and what will actually be seen. Then I'd break down the environment into smaller objects (which it looks like you've already done), and map them one at a time - stick to basic shapes where possible, so likely to be lots of planar maps and cylindrical maps probably (from looking at the screens).

Also, try not to worry as much about bits you can't see!

It will probably be a bit of a beast, but it's just one of those things that needs to be done... fortunately it uses fairly regular shapes, so auto-UVing using the planar/cylindrical maps should get you off to a decent start!
